4 LCRC riders made the trip to Athlone for the GP race. Poor conditions for the time of year greeted the riders for the 95km race. An early break of 3 riders moved clear of the bunch and took the first KOH 8KM into the 2nd lap. This break was reduced down to 2 and their lead pushed out to over a minute at one point. The pace in the bunch was knocked off as nobody was willing or able to organise a concerted chase. A few break tried to go with 20km to go but the bunch was letting nothing else up the road. The two lone escapees held on for a fine 1st and 2nd on the day and the bunch behind prepared for a sprint for the remaining positions. LCRC organised themselves well coming into the finish and with numbers in the bunch stood a great chance of a result. The sprint was hectic but a gap on the left hand side of the road opened up and Ryan kicked hard and managed to take a fine 5th in his first A3 race. Rob a few bike lengths behind took a fine 8th overall. Congrats to both and well done to all the LCRC riders who took part.
