Unfortunately the event had to be postponed earlier in the year in the wake of the tragic death of Cmdt. Morgan Sparrow of the Air Corps. Morgan who was a member of the Irish Road Club died after an accident during a club league race. As a mark of respect to his family and to remember Morgan, this and all future editions of the Around the Mountains will be held in his memory. The event will follow broadly the same format as previous years. This year there will be a 120km and a 180km option; details to be confirmed. Sign on will be in Baldonnel on the morning and we will depart along with full back up from the Air Corps. Rolling road closures will be in place by motorcycle outriders and breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided. This really is a top class event made possible by the Air Corps so we would urge all club members to support the event and spread the word to their cyclist friends. As always we will nominate a charity as the beneficiary of the event.
Entry fee per previous years will be €40, all of which goes to charity; the Air Corps give their time for free. Entry can be made in Stagg Cycles Lucan and we will also be setting up a Paypal online entry system. Riders can also pay on the day however pre-payment is preferred. This year a noted difference is that the event will be held on a Saturday. This was decided following feedback from last years event. To capitalise on there will be a social event afterwards in the AC Lounge. Finer details are still to be confirmed but no doubt there will be music and a few pints, a perfect way to end the racing season and talk about all the races we 'nearly won'...and some we actually did! . There are showers and changing facilities available in Baldonnel afterwards.
Riders are welcome to bring their partners & family along afterwards for the entertainment for what promises to be a great night. If you have any questions please get in touch. Please do your very best to support this showpiece event for the club! Spread the word!
